David Hogg from Horizon Imaging recently gave a talk at Bookham Camera Club on Drone Aerial Photography. The evening was split into two halves, with a flying demonstration in the first half and a talk on the history and current state-of-the-art in drones in the second half.
The talk covered a wide range of topics including:

In addition to the talk, Horizon Imaging’s Hexacopter drone was also demonstrated in a nearby allotment, offering the attendees a chance to see the drone in action, and to have an aerial group photograph taken for their club’s newsletter!
The talk was very well received by the members of the club, and the club’s programme secretary recently sent us this kind review of our talk, taken from their newsletter:
“Our drone evening was great success. David Hogg, MD of Horizon Imaging, came along with his custom made drone and in addition to giving us a well-illustrated and informative talk, we had a live flying demonstration. Thankfully it was a warm evening and the flying demo took place over the allotments.
It was fascinating to see how technologies from different areas, such as motion sensors from Wii handsets, were integrated into the drone to provide a stable platform for aerial photography. We were also impressed by the superb image quality form the Sony Alpha camera mounted on the Drone. A different, new and very current area of photography, and an excellent way to round off
the programme for the year.”
If you belong to a camera club (or in fact any organisation!) and you would be interested in having me give a presentation on Drone Aerial Photography to your members, please do get in touch – it’s always such a pleasure to meet new people and share my passion of aerial photography with them!
