Horizon Imaging was recently commissioned to photograph a new housing development in Saffron Walden, Essex, called ‘The Avenue’. The housing development covers approximately 3 acres of land and includes 76 new homes, 25% of which are dedicated as affordable housing. In order to capture a variety of unique viewpoints of the development and to show how it fits in with the surrounding landscape, we used both our Drone and Mast photography platforms.
The housing development sits directly adjacent to Friends’ School, and indeed some of the houses were built on land which previously belonged to the school. As the Drone cannot be flown over or within 50 metres of built-up areas, permission was sought to fly from the school’s playing field which provided the perfect location to capture the entire housing development from the air in a single photograph (see right).
As well as taking overview aerial photographs of the development using the Drone, we also took more detailed close-up photos from specific points around the site using our Telescopic Mast (see right). This still provided unique elevated views of the development, and unlike the Drone, the Mast can be used in built-up areas and in close proximity to buildings.
Companies are increasingly turning to Drone Aerial Photography to capture unique perspectives of their projects from the air. Whichever aerial photography company you use, make sure you ask to see their ‘Permission for Aerial Work’ from the CAA before proceeding with any photography work.
