As part of Horizon Imaging’s commitment to only using the best technology for capturing our aerial photographs, we have recently invested in a brand new aerial photography platform, the ‘Octocopter’. Compared to our current ‘Hexacopter’, this platform will:
- Be able to fly for 50% longer on a single battery
- Be more resistant to windy conditions
- Be even safer to fly – with motor redundancy on every motor arm
- Carry a 3-axis stabilised gimbal (roll, pan and tilt), allowing the capture of High-Definition rock-steady aerial video, and 360 degree aerial panoramas
- Have retractable undercarriage for obstruction-free aerial video and panoramas
- Open the door to two-person operation, where one person flies the drone, and another controls the camera – ideal for complex aerial video assignments
The ‘Octocopter’ is currently undergoing flight testing, and is scheduled to be fully operational later this year or early in 2015. Watch this space!
