During the past year we have been commissioned to produce two promotional films for national construction firm Willmott Dixon — one for the new Village Hotel in Bristol and the other for the new Woodmansterne Secondary School in Lambeth, London. The brief for both films was quite similar — the films had to feature both aerial and ground-level video footage and also needed to include interviews with members of staff who work in the respective buildings.
The difference is that the Bristol film was captured after project completion, whilst the Woodmansterne School film was captured twice — at the beginning and towards the end of the construction work.
Village Hotel — Bristol
The first film we produced is about the new (at time of writing!) Village Hotel in Bristol which we captured on a cold but sunny day at the beginning of January this year.
The flying area for taking the aerial photographs and footage was quite restricted (as the site was bounded on two side by main roads), but we were still able to capture a variety of different photographs by flying at various heights and orientations over the surrounding vacant brownfield sites.
Also, the use of two different focal length lenses made it possible to capture close-up images of the large Village Hotel logo whilst keeping the drone a safe distance from the building and the members of public using the building.

Woodmansterne Secondary School — Lambeth, London
The second film we produced was slightly more complex as it was to be a Customer Vision film where the customer is interviewed at the start and towards the end of the construction phase of the project.
During the first visit we took aerial and ground-level footage in and around the site, as well as interviewing members of the Willmott Dixon team and the Headteacher of the school.
We then revisited the school 9 months later and captured the same type of footage again – the idea being to compare the initial expectations of the client with the reality of the project once it was nearing completion. It’s likely we will revisit the school once more in April when the construction work is due to complete.
Here is the finished film about the new Woodmansterne Secondary School, featuring footage from our two visits to the site in February and November 2018. What Do Our Clients Say?
Our client, Willmott Dixon was delighted with the service we provided, and recently sent us the following kind testimonial (specifically about the Village Hotel project):
“I have worked with David for a number of years and his service is always outstanding. My brief to David was to capture the look and feel of our recently completed project. We wanted to capture more than just the building but also the people who were now occupying it and the difference it was having already. David achieved this really well; providing me with some great stock to use going forward. Working with David is easy and I trust him to fulfil my brief.”
“I commissioned Horizon Imaging to develop a promotional video for my updated website, Passionate Innovation. Innovation is not easy to film! The thinking and creativity can be very passive but David made it all come to life. He helped me think through what would look good on video and he guided me very patiently through the head shots and voiceovers. His experience in this area made it easy for me and I am really delighted with the result.”
